Tyus is a Colorado native and grew up as a multi-sport athlete, he started playing tennis at sixteen and fell in love with the game. Despite picking up the game in high school he progressed quickly, climbing up the USTA rankings. As he continued playing, he really found a passion for the mental aspect and intricacies of the game. He is an accomplished tournament player with a couple of his favorite tournament wins being winning the Denver City Open and the Steamboat NTRP Championships.
As a coach, Tyus brings an infectious energy and passion coupled with a strong background of growing and developing players from beginners to high performance. He has been the Head Junior Varsity and Assistant Varsity coach at Cherokee Trail High School for 8 years for the boys and 4 years for the girls.
For eight years Tyus has worked in special education and is also the Head Coach of a Special Olympics high school basketball team.
He describes coaching tennis as a meaningful and rewarding way to give back to the game that has given so much to him. A game that has been an outlet, and a game where you can always evolve as a player mentally and physically. “I strive to make the learning environment enjoyable and love making tennis a joyful getaway from the hardships of life.”
