Steve joins the PRC staff and brings over forty years of diversified player development, and coaching experience from Texas, Hawaii, California, Virginia, and back to Colorado. He is passionate about teaching tennis, no matter the age or ability. 

 He was fortunate to have been mentored by legendary International Tennis Hall of Fame Coach and friend Vic Braden, who was regarded by many as one of the world’s greatest tennis coaches. Steve also attended the Tennis Tech program in Tyler Texas, which had the first comprehensive degree program for tennis professionals. This program fostered the development of similar programs around the world, with former students now teaching in nearly fifty countries.

Steve loves being back in Colorado, where he has worked at numerous clubs, with adults and juniors.

Throughout his career has coached numerous juniors, many with national rankings who have gone on to compete collegiately, as well as several that have played professionally. In addition to junior and collegiate players, he has coached adult USTA teams that have progressed and won at the sectional and national levels.

 

Steve has a several coaching philosophies and beliefs: 1.There is not a wrong way to hit a ball, but dimensions of the court and physical laws dictate stroke production – not a coach’s opinion or any unique theory. 2. Three “E’s” in a lesson: Exercise, Enjoyment, and Education . . . maximized in the shortest period possible. 3. Give detailed instructions anyone can understand, simple is better than complicated, learn from every student you teach, fix the one thing that fixes three things.

 

Coach Steve’s wife Colleen, is also on staff at the PRC and is a highly experienced tennis, padel, and pickleball professional. Their daughter was a two-time Colorado state singles champion and played for D1 Boise State. Steve’s family is a “tennis family”, they love tennis and improving players.
